Saudi Arabia executes woman convicted of murder

Ethiopian woman, Jinat Farid was found guilty of killing Ghalia Eida al-Harithi by striking her repeatedly with an axe as the victim knelt to perform Muslim prayers, the ministry said in a statement carried by state news agency, SPA. After killing Harithi, Farid stole two gold rings and an unspecified amount of money, the ministry said. She was executed in the western city of Taif. 

The ministry did not specify any connection between the culprit and the victim, but the kingdom hosts large numbers of domestic workers that come from African and South Asian countries.

16 days after Williams Esther, bathed her neighbor,Mrs. Mabel Enwongomfon–Umoh with a bucket of hot water during a minor argument,she has blamed the devil for her wicked act .

The incident, which happened on Christmas eve,  has left Mabel in excruciating pain as she sustained severe burns on her chest, breasts, neck and a part of her face, it has also deprived her two months old baby from being breastfed because of her breast injuries.

Esther, a househelp before her action landed her in police custody, spoke with Saturday PUNCH before her arraignment, saying even though she knew the hot water could inflict severe injury on her neighbour, she did it out of anger. 

“I’m sorry. I was pushed by the devil to do it. I wish I didn’t do it. After I did it, people were beating me before I was arrested. I feel bad. I’m sorry. Everybody in the house makes trouble, not only me,” she said.

While Esther had since been remanded in police custody until she satisfies the bail conditions imposed by the court; a bail of N500,000 and two sureties in like sum among other conditions, and the matter adjourned till March 9, 2016, Mabel, who has been bedridden since the incident happened, says she has missed breastfeeding her baby.

“Sometimes, I would see milk coming out of my breasts, which was a sign that my baby was crying but there was nothing I could do,” she told Saturday PUNCH.

She said her baby had been feeding on formula.She recalled that her first child could not stand what had become of her face and body the first time she and the two-month-old baby visited her in the hospital.

“She ran away and refused to come inside until they went back home, but she has now got used to it,” she said.

American artist found dead in Italy

American artist Ashley Olsen has been found dead at her apartment in Florence, Italy.

Her death is being treated as a homicide, police spokeswoman Maddalena Carosi said on Italian TV.

Italian news agency ANSA reported that Olsen, 35, was found strangled, but authorities declined to comment on the cause of death until an autopsy is complete.

Olsen's boyfriend, a fellow artist, reportedly found her body on Saturday.

He was concerned because he had not heard from her, so he asked Olsen's landlord to go with him to Olsen's apartment to check on her, ANSA said

Dickson wins bayelsa governorship election

The incumbent governor of Bayelsa state has been declared winner of the governorship election in Bayelsa state. Having won the rerun election in Southern Ijaw LG, Seriake was declared winner of the election by INEC. He pulled a total of 134,998 votes to defeat APC's Timipre Sylva who pulled 86,852 votes. 

“Henry Dickson Seriake, having satisfied the requirements of the law and scored the highest number of votes, is hereby declared the winner and is returned elected. This is signed by the returning officer dated this 10th day of January 2016,” the Returning Officer said

5 young men rapes a girl right infront of her father

Brooklyn police yesterday put out this photo taken from CCTV surveillance of 5 young men accused of brutally raping an 18 year old girl in front of her dad on Thursday night, January 7th. According to the story, the unnamed victim and her dad were inside Osborn Playground in Brownsville, Brooklyn about 11:15 p.m when the thugs approached them. One of them pulled out a gun, pointed it at the father and told him to leave the playground or he would be killed. After the dad ran from the playground, each of the thugs took turns raping the girl... 

Borno state government schools set to resume November.....

Borno State government says that it would be re-opening public secondary schools in the state on November 16th. 

Making the announcement during a meeting with principals of secondary schools in Maiduguri today November 4th, the state commissioner for Education, Inuwa Kubo, said that only schools located in secured areas with adequate security would be re-opened.
